Eric Peters has an interesting take on the police and their role in our civic life. Having been stopped by the police a number of times, I’ve never felt anything less than fear every time. They’re armed, I’m armed and I’m required to tell them so. While nothing has ever gone poorly, I have to add the caveat “so far”. I’m simply one interaction away from losing my freedom or my life. Me, the epitome of the “law abiding citizen”–a single traffic ticket when I was 18 is the only thing on my record, period.
We shouldn’t have to live in fear of the police. But if your honest with yourself, that’s the way it is.
