I have what may be an odd mental quirk. When things are “bad”, most people want happy, sunshine and puppies, entertainment. Not me. I dive right into stuff that reflects what’s going on. And so it is with The Sheriff Of Purgatory.
The story is classic 70s doomer porn-after a disastrous foreign war, the US has fallen apart. Depending on where you are, either the Mafia or the Russians are in control.
Set against this background, the sheriff of Purgatory County, Arkansas needs to go into the hell of New York City and retrieve his kids.
Fun read, at least for me. There are two editions I know of. Go for the longer one. The original was rather heavily edited and removed a lot of the story line to the detriment of the book.
