Long-time readers know I fight with migraines and have for years. Right now, I’m doing pretty good, with 1-2 per month on average. My neurologist wants the number to be zero. We’re working on it.
When I have a migraine coming on, it generally starts by coming up my neck first. I’ve discovered that if I can keep it from getting my neck out of whack that I can often stop the migraine in its tracks. My neurologist has given me a substantial prescription for strong muscle relaxers that I can use at my discretion when I feel one coming on. They don’t always work.
But there is another thing I do regularly that my neurologist vehemently disagrees with, and that’s getting a chiropractic adjustment of my neck every two weeks. I’ve noticed that it not only helps with the migraines, but my neck hurts less and is more mobile.
It seems others mirror my experience.
Nice to get some occasional validation. 🙂
I was on a muscle relaxant for several years. As I recall, it sort of helped, but the info I read said it primarily blocked the pain receptors, more than actually relax the muscles. I found over the counter rubs were about as effective. I eventually added daily doses of potassium and magnesium, which seems to help.
The chiropractor my Dad used 50 years ago used to tell us he could relieve many headache pains by spinal or neck manipulation. You’re right. Most docs don’t want to hear that. They just want you to take more drugs. To be fair, a lot of chiros will also rope you into more sessions for anything, just to keep you coming in.
Hope it continues to help you.
