Fine Art Tuesday

Mountainous Landscape, Will Henry Stevens

Will Henry Stevens was born in Indiana in 1881. Educated in art in Cincinnati and New York City, in 1920 he moved to New Orleans to teach at Newcomb College and remained there until the last year of his life.

From the Mid-1930s, he “combined familiar representational motifs with abstract improvisations to interpret his favorite subjects, the coastal landscapes of Louisiana and Mississippi, and the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.

His work draws heavily on the abstract school, but reflects other influences ranging from impressionism to Chinese art.

I find myself learning more about art and learning to appreciate things I never thought I liked doing these posts.

Note: Fine Art Tuesday was started by Eaton Rapids Joe in memory of Ol’ Remus, late proprietor of  the Woodpile Report. If you’re a blogger and are so moved, please feel free to join us with your own Fine Art Tuesday post.
