It could have been better, but it also could have been worse. Note that the vote was 6-1.

The Hickory City Council has approved a plan to let people with permits bring concealed handguns to city park and recreational facilities, though other weapons would still be banned from the properties.

The Hickory Daily Record reports the city council agreed 6-to-1 Tuesday to allow handguns on park sites.

Slowly but surely we’re winning. And somewhere, Sarah Brady is all boo-hoo-y. Bonus points.
