Yes, very illegal and very stupid. I believe Thomas Payne even stated in Common Sense, that one must follow even bad laws, but work to change them.

In Marbury v. Madison, the Supreme Court clearly stated that an unConstitutional law has no force, and the last time I checked, the end of the Second Amendment states "shall not be infringed".
