  1. I know a little of his politics. Allow me to share it with you.

In 1997 Knopfler recorded a version of Bob Dylan's "Knocking on Heaven's Door" with lyrics altered to support the Snowdrop Campaign (following the Dunblane shootings in Scotland) which sought to remove private ownership of handguns in the UK. This campaign may not have been the only factor which resulted in the Firearms Act 1997. What I do know is that in 1998 along with 60,000 other law abiding citizens I was compelled to surrender all centrefire and rimfire pistols for disposal by the Police.

Along with Mark Knopfler, Sean Connery has a special mention in these links. Far be it from me to accuse arts and media personalities of jumping on the bandwagon, but Connery also appeared in a Cinema (movie) advertisement supporting the handgun ban.
