GUN PORN!

Yes, here at The Freehold, we strive to bring you, if not the best, if not the most, the latest in Father’s Day gun porn.

This Saturday was the Annual Freehold Father’s Day Shoot. No, we don’t shoot fathers, we take them out to shoot. Heck, we take kids out to shoot (Ms. Feinstein, please stop foaming at the mouth). We take friends out to shoot. We even take guns out to shoot. [rimshot]

(Left) Here we have Son firing the M1 Garand, which is, as General Patton said, “the greatest single battle implement ever devised by man.”. Note the clip in the air. I’ve been trying for that shot for the last 3 trips to the range.

This particular M1 is an H&R, and is one of 3 that I recently bought from another collector. It needs some minor work, but it’s in overall good shape–definately a keeper. Accuracy is about what I expect from a service rifle–3-4 MOA.

(Right) Now this one is Son firing the Mountain Man’s CZ 452. The gun mounts a very nice Leupold scope, and is absolutely astoundingly accurate. Off the bag, you can shoot well under 1″ groups. It makes most of my .22s very jealous.

(Left) Speaking of the Mountain Man, we finally have the opportunity to bring him to you, along with his e-e-e-vil AR-10. Also mounting a Leupold scope (Must be nice!), it’s another outstandingly accurate gun. I’m not a big AR fan, but one of these could change my mind.

(Right) And what would a Father’s Day Shoot be without a picture of The Father, contentedly plinking away with one of my favorites, an old Sears-branded .22. Two oldies-but-goodies, enjoying each other’s company.

And yes, he still hits what he aims at. He chewed the targets up at 50 yards. Of course, he’s never grown used to the requirements of age. He still doesn’t like scopes, and he’s still not learned to not rest the barrel on the bag. I bet he could tighten up those groups considerably if he would just stop doing that. 🙂

After the afternoon’s entertainment was over, we all adjourned to Camp Freehold, where Old Friend’s Older Brother and his Lady Friend played host to a meal fit for a king–or at least a father. Grilled pork chops, squash and onion stir-fry, potato salad, fresh corn on the cob, cucumbers and dressing, rolls and cake for desert. Folks, this is as good as it gets.

I hope you all had a good a Father’s Day weekend as we did.

(I also hope that the formatting of this on your screen is something like what I intended. I have yet to learn how to get Blogger to do exactly what I want it to do when it comes to pictures. Suggestions always welcome, hint, hint.)
