And while we’re on the subject of the government meddling in your affairs

The National Security Agency has been secretly collecting phone call records of tens of millions of Americans, including calls made within the United States, according to reports.

But on the bright side, the program “does not involve the NSA listening to or recording conversations.”

Now doesn’t that just make you all warm and fuzzy inside? Mr. President, if you’re wondering why your approval ratings are dropping like a stone, and why your party is getting ready to lose control of the House and Senate, may I submit that these little faux pas have something to do with it? Those of us who value freedom are getting more than a little tired of these shenanigans.

EDIT: Via Drudge, we have this article, where the President is quoted as saying “We’re not mining or trolling through the private lives of innocent Americans.” That may be true right now, sir, but our government has a documented history of using information gathered for one prupose for other purposes, such as looking for the infamous “deadbeat dads”. That’s why we don’t like our government accumulating vast amounts of information–because the use of it always winds up being other than what it was originally intended for.
