Hacking pharmaceuticals

I’m not wild about the guy’s politics or a lot of other things about him, but the concept of of a DIY pharmaceutical lab where you or a small group could brew your own drugs by recipe is something that looks really attractive to the prepper in me. I also like the ability to stick it to Big Pharma as well.
I like the concept, but I would have to be a lot more desperate than I can realistically imagine myself being in to try it.
It would be interesting to gain the knowledge though.
