Independence Day

Nope, not a “Happy Independence Day” here at the Freehold.  It’s difficult for me to do as so many are urging and read the Declaration of Independence.  I have a hard time doing it without being angry at how it has been folded, spindled, mutilated, spit upon and ran through the shredder, often by those who make the most noise about what an important document it is.

So I’m going to do what I’ve been doing for quite some time now.  My US flag is staying furled.  I’m not going to be all gung-ho patriotic.  Instead I will mourn the passing of the country I was born in and that is dying before my eyes.  I will regret the decisions that I have made that have played some small part in this, pleading the ignorance of youth and inexperience.

There may be a time in the future when I can in good conscience proudly fly the flag again.  I hope I live long enough to see that day.
