Over the years, I can’t tell you how many times on this or that Intertubz fora, while discussing some government excess, that I or someone else would make a comment along the lines of “This is the sort of thing you see in a police state” and get angrily shouted down by those who informed us in no uncertain terms that the United States was not a police state.

And over the years, I’ve watched as our government got larger and more intrusive, our police became more militarized and less accountable and our freedoms became more and more precarious.  Yet every time you dare mention that these are the steps you see when a country moves toward police state status, you get the angry denials–“WE ARE NOT A POLICE STATE!!!”  And I am a bad person for even thinking that it could possibly happen.  We’re ‘Murica, and shit like that don’ happn here!

Pollyanna, you need to get your fucking head out of your ass and start paying attention.

Last year, high-ranking NSA official Bill Binney said, “We are, like, that far from a turnkey totalitarian state.” Now, Binney says that the U.S. has already become a full-blown police state.

Fun times are coming.  If you don’t know what you need to do, read the back posts here, look in the blogroll and start reading, or give Google some exercise.  If nothing else, you’ll give the NSA something to do–one more person that they’re going to have to monitor.  But stop thinking that you’re going to vote your way out of this, or boycott your way out of this.  The cavalry isn’t going to come riding over the hill, and if it does, it will probably be looking for you.
