Not much about this in the US media

The US media, at least the parts I’ve seen, is not saying much about Friday’s (Saturday’s for them) earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand. It’s instructional to read about. It seems that their government is not fumbling about, trying to figure out the most effective way to interfere in people’s efforts to help themselves. People are, for the most part, pulling together and helping each other. I guess they don’t have an analog of FEMA. Lucky folks.

It’s also a good case study in why you need to make preparations for emergencies, disasters and the like.

The best coverage is, of course, the local coverage. You can get a lot at the New Zealand Herald, more at TV New Zealand.

Any readers from New Zealand? I’d like to hear anything you have to say in the comments.
