I’ve been thinking

Always a dangerous thing, I know. However, the events of the last couple of days beg for concentrated consideration.

As we all know by now, The Big O and his Democrat/socialist/statist buddies won Round 1 on the health care “reform” thing. Notice I’m saying “Round 1”. There are more coming. Round 2 is already on–states are challenging the legislation in court on a variety of reasons. They may win, but honestly it’s unlikely. At any rate, that ought to hold them until summer, when Round 3 starts–the season for politicking for the next elections. Round 4 is obviously the November elections, with Round 5, the actions of the lame duck Congress. Round 6 will be the new Congress, hopefully packed with newly minted conservative congressmen and women. (I’ll leave carrying this metaphor out to Round 15 as an exercise for the reader; however I’ll note that I’m hoping for a KO about Round 10 or so.)

So don’t despair. This fight isn’t over by a long shot.

However, we also don’t want to forget that this crowd will be overheated by their success. On Sunday night, they were even talking about “getting this out of the way so we can press on to other things”. I doubt that it takes much brainpower to work out what those “other things” are: cap and trade and amnesty for illegals (known to them as “immigration reform”). We may even get to “pension reform” (also known as “stealing your 401(k)/403(b)/IRA/whatever) and possible even a renewal of the “assault weapons ban” (for fear we’re fixin’ to use them, perhaps).

The bad thing is that, for now, we’re in a position of weakness. They’ve got us outnumbered on all fronts. That means that we’re going to have to “play up”. We’re going to have to leverage every advantage we can find or create.

A lot is being made of how angry we are, and, in large part, that’s true. I’ve heard that the other side expects us to get over it by November, and they are probably right–we will get over being angry.

Now let me explain that remark. Unless you’re a serious psychopath, you simply can’t stay that angry for months on end without pushing yourself over the edge. And who’d want to do that? Great Bleeding Ghu, that means you’d turn into a Democrat! The horror!

But seriously, we can’t stay that angry that long, and even if we did, it wouldn’t help. What we need to do is get smart, stay aware, and keep our eye on the prize.

That prize is the defeat, over the next few years, of every one of these idiots. We need to hound them from office and after that from public life. We need to smear them so badly that Jimmy Carter starts to look downright good in comparison.

And to do it what we need to stay is…focused.
