Lightning never strikes twice in the same place?

Of course it does–the Empire State Building was once struck 8 times in 24 hours. And surprise, surprise, hurricanes can strike twice in the same place as well:
It’s going to be interesting to see how the citizens react now as opposed to the last time. I can still remember coming home from Camp Freehold and watching the news–hurricane bearing down, buses parked in lots, evacuations routes deserted, and panicked people trying to get into the Superdome to ride out the storm.
Do you suppose they’ve learned anything? Like “Get the hell out of Dodge!”? At least the governor’s caught a clue:
With Tropical Storm Gustav swirling near Cuba and likely to enter the Gulf of Mexico as a hurricane this weekend, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said an evacuation could begin as early as Friday — three years to the day after Katrina inundated New Orleans.
Jindal said he had activated the state’s catastrophic action team and could declare a state of emergency as early as Thursday. He also put the Louisiana National Guard on alert.
“We all need to be prepared and ready to respond, from the citizen level and at every level of government,” Jindal said.
Of course, those who expected the government to take care of them last time probably will sit around and wait for the government again–they’re programmed that way. If they do, I vote for leaving them to their own devices.
And if the place floods again, can we please stop wasting our tax money rebuilding things that are 10′ below sea level? Please? Just save the port and the French Quarter and bulldoze the rest.
