It got quiet again

Sorry for not putting anything up lately. Blame it on the summer heat, laziness or whatever. It doesn’t help that our central AC died this week (during a heat wave), and I’ve been dealing with that little hairball. I grew up without AC (in the South, so we’re talking heat and humidity here) and I’d forgotten how hard it was to live without AC in high summer. Thank God the AC dude is on the way–the parts finally arrived! To make up for it, please accept this nugget:

A local politician has been running campaign ads using excerpts from Bill Cosby’s speech in May at a dinner celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education decision. He was vilified in much of the press, praised by some. He made a similar speech earlier this moth, with the same predictable reactions.

He made another speech today. This time he came armed with numbers:

Fifty percent of our children are dropping out of high school. Sixty percent of the incarcerated males happen to be illiterate. There’s a correlation.

File that in the “things that make you go ‘h-m-m'” folder.

Want some more on why this is going on? Ken Hamblin can fill you in.
