This is why coastal residents don’t evacuate for hurricanes

Some Hatteras Island residents will be allowed to return starting Sunday,more than a weekafter Hurricane Irene severed N.C. 12 in several places, cutting off access to the island.

A stupid and foolish policy. Make them sign a “hold harmless” release and let them go back to their homes ASAP after the storm has passed, nanny.
